About Vara Cooper
Vara Cooper is a native New Yorker who traveled 13 countries and 49 states, but has never been to the Grand Canyon or the top of the Empire State Building. Prior to bringing her yarns and hounds to the greater Philadelphia area, Vara was telling stories, teaching, writing, editing, and making fiber art in Asheville, NC.
Vara is a Moth Story Slam champion and winner of the 2017 National Story Slam at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee. Vara emceed and co-produced West Asheville's oldest story slam and has been featured on WGBH’s Stories from the Stage, the Risk! podcast, and other beloved programs.
Vara earned a bachelor’s degree in English and American Literature from New York University, master’s degrees in English and Adolescent Education from Hunter College, and master’s certification in Academically and Intellectually Gifted Education from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Vara’s favorite color is green.
